Synopsis of Presentation:
Provision of anxiolysis and anesthesia to our patients remains a cornerstone of our practices. Our training is geared towards learning and maintaining those skills in open-airway general anesthesia for the entire OMS team. Despite a proven record of safety, the OMS anesthesia model is constantly challenged. What are our strengths and weaknesses, opportunities and threats and how can we continue to preserve our anesthesia model? The second lecture will discuss the importance of in-situ mock drills practicing emergencies in the
office with your team using your own equipment and the power of eliminating "near misses".

Synopsis of Presentation:
Implementing modern simulation equipment and teaching techniques in the dental setting is much more than simply purchasing a rubber doll and telling your team members to go save the patient because they are dying. Clinical simulation is a tool, or a method, that the skilled educator can use to uncover hidden deficiencies, and latent patient-safety threats, while also bringing introspection and revelation to each participant, in a safe setting. We will discuss how this tool for teaching and learning is being implemented at the Dugoni school for predoctoral education, as well as the clinical practice of the department of OMS.
