Description:
Our 2-day competency course introduces the principles of a hearing conservation programme in the workplace. It gives delegates the knowledge and skills needed to perform screening audiometry including evaluation and categorisation of test results.

Learning outcomes:
By the end of each audiometry course delegates should be able to:

• Have a foundational understanding of acoustics, and anatomy and physiology of the ear.
• Understand hearing loss, the legislature surrounding this, and factors affecting testing accuracy.
• Conduct a complete audiological assessment. Including a preparatory questionnaire, otoscopy, instructing the subject, and conduct a manual pure tone air conduction audiometric test.
• Be confident and competent when interpreting audiometric data. Along with the subsequent implications on a client’s health, including categorising results in-line with HSE 2005 guidance.
• Provide advice to clients about the appropriate use of personal protective equipment (PPE).
• Understand what's needed to organise and run an audiometry surveillance programme. Including retaining GDPR compliant records, retrieving data, and compiling a standard audit of audiometric data.
• Understand the necessary equipment maintenance required for successful and accurate hearing screening programmes
