Description:
The Academy’s annual Health Policy Conference provided a forum for attendees to learn, discuss, and influence health policies through nursing leadership that advances healthy lives for all people. At this year's event, the Academy is envisioning its future through the power of courageous transformations. This conference will explore the importance of virtual health, community-based partnerships, and the economic value of nursing to advance the goal of attaining a more equitable future. With a focus on leadership strategies to enact systemic change and promote well-being, attendees will hear from interprofessional thought leaders in policy and practice who will share key health equity interventions that will transform how health care is paid for, provided, and received. The Academy invites and seeks to engage Fellows, nurses, students, policymakers, and other stakeholders in a rich conversation to better prepare attendees to engage in trusted collaborations and take bold action to advance evidence-driven policy solutions.

Learning Outcomes:
Through engagement at the 2025 Health Policy Conference, participants will:

  • Examine approaches to advancing health and well-being in the context of contemporary policy-related challenges.
  • Identify leadership opportunities to impact policy development and build public trust.
  • Outline effective leadership strategies for risk evaluation and communication while translating vital information across contexts and populations

Purpose Statement:
The health care leader of today and the not-so-distant future must contend with an ever-evolving landscape driven by changes to policy, technology, and competing barriers to health and well-being.
The patient, clinician, and public experience within the health care industry may and, more importantly, should adapt and transform to ensure positive trends in health outcomes. This conference will explore the role of leaders as navigators and translators who assess risk, forecast scenarios, and adopt communication strategies to ensure progress is made. Attendees will hear from interprofessional speakers who will challenge them to imagine innovative ways to communicate information, understand when mistrust is an obstacle in building partnerships, and draw upon historical insights to navigate the present and prepare for the future. The American Academy of Nursing (Academy) invites Fellows, nurses, students, policymakers, and other stakeholders to join this dynamic dialogue to champion evidence-driven policy solutions and help achieve the Academy’s vision of Healthy Lives for All People.
