OVERVIEW

2025 Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (ACCME) Accreditation Workshop is organized by Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (ACCME) and will be held from Aug 26 - 27, 2025 at Loews Chicago Hotel, Chicago, Illinois, United States of America.

Description:
The ACCME Accreditation Workshop is an essential professional development opportunity for new members of the accredited continuing education (CE) community. During this two-day meeting, we will explore ACCME’s requirements and expectations for accreditation and learn how to utilize them as tools for healthcare transformation.

The workshop is an essential professional development opportunity for those who are new to accredited continuing medical education (CME). Together we will explore the ACCME’s requirements and expectations for accreditation as well as how accredited CE can be a strategic tool for healthcare improvement.

What can I expect from the ACCME Accreditation Workshop?
Expect to engage with pre-workshop content in ACCME Academy during the weeks leading up to the workshop.
The workshop includes self-directed online instruction—several courses and a pre-workshop assessment in ACCME Academy, the ACCME’s online learning platform—which will be available a few weeks in advance of the workshop. You will need to spend between 4-5 hours to complete the online courses prior to attending the live meeting. Engagement in the pre-workshop content is required as it is critical to optimizing your learning outcomes during the in-person workshop. The pre-workshop assessment will help you identify your own professional practice gaps and educational needs to make the most of your time at the workshop.

Expect to be an active learner during the workshop.
We encourage you to be an active participant in the workshop and have included interactive breakout sessions to help you develop strategies that you can apply at your own organization.

Expect to network with colleagues and interact with ACCME staff.
The ACCME Accreditation Workshop will provide you with many opportunities to connect with colleagues and ACCME staff.

Expect to walk away with new strategies.
The ACCME Accreditation Workshop is designed to help you apply your understanding of ACCME requirements into practice within your CME program. You and your colleagues will explore the expectations of ACCME requirements while sharing practice tips with colleagues. Our goal is to help you acquire tools and strategies to support your own CME practice—including educational resources to engage faculty, clinicians, and teams and to apply key learnings to your everyday practice.

Optional Newcomers’ Pre-Conference Session
Looking for a broader overview of accredited CE in advance of the workshop? As a pre-conference to the Accreditation Workshop, we will offer an optional Newcomers’ Orientation to Accredited CE on Monday, August 25. This pre-conference session will explore what it means to be accredited in the ACCME system, including the value of accredited CE for physicians and the public.

We recommend this session for those who are new to the CE community (e.g., have been in accredited CE for 1 year or less). This pre-workshop session will introduce participants to foundational information about ACCME and accredited CE, including:

  • The scope and mission of ACCME's accreditation system.
  • The terminology of accredited continuing education.
  • The basic construct of the ACCME accreditation requirements.
  • Some key stakeholders in accredited CE.

This session is an opportunity to get the most out of the workshop and meet with other newcomer colleagues.

The 2025 ACCME Accreditation Workshop will include:

  • Face-to-face in-person engagement with colleagues, faculty mentors, and ACCME staff to develop strategies to advance your CE program.
  • Access to approximately three hours of self-directed, online courses on ACCME accreditation concepts and requirements via ACCME Academy.
  • Resources and strategies to support your educational program including resources to engage faculty, clinicians, and teams.
  • In-depth exploration of the Standards for Integrity & Independence in Accredited Continuing Education, including an overview of how to meet the ACCME’s expectations and resources to support your implementation.
  • Opportunities to strategize with colleagues and ACCME staff around timely topics such as engaging learners, addressing diversity, equity, and inclusion in CE, resources for faculty development, and incorporating CME that counts for Maintenance of Certification into your educational programming.
  • Tools to help you position CE as a strategic asset in your organization.
