The Critical Care Transport Medicine Conference is designed to address topics pertinent to the out-of-hospital and emergency care of the critically ill and injured patient Physicians, nurses, paramedics, respiratory therapists and allied healthcare professionals will be provided information that offers them a deeper understanding of the essentials of care required for the complex patient requiring critical care air and ground transport Lectures will be presented that will help participants develop leadership skills.
Educational Objectives:
At the completion of this conference participants should know or be able to:
- Prioritize treatment of pediatric patients presenting with medical emergencies and coinciding congenital heart defects in rural hospital and scene settings.
- Review of disease specific ventilation strategies (ARDS, Asthma/COPD, Cardiac Arrest, Septic/Hemorrhagic Shock, Cardiogenic Shock).
- Explain key AI technologies-including Large Language Models (LLMs), Generative AI (GenAI), Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG), and Agentic AI-and describe their current and potential applications in enhancing critical care transport medicine.
- Identify and address the practical challenges of using HFNC in a transport setting, including equipment limitations, battery life, and staff training. Attendees will leave with strategies to overcome these challenges and incorporate HFNC into transport protocols to improve patient outcomes while minimizing invasive procedures.
- State the most important aspect of neonatal resuscitation and list one way to ensure its effectiveness.
- Describe two physiologic benefits of prone ventilation.
- Identify treatment goals in caring for the mechanically ventilated and deteriorating HROB patient with trauma.
- Describe the potential pitfalls of prehospital intubation especially related to hemodynamic collapse.
- Understanding the Physiology of Alcohol Withdrawal.
- Understand the Impact of Altitude and Environmental Factors on Neurocritical Patient Outcomes.
- Understand the Impact of Emerging Technologies: Participants will explore how VR, AR, and MR are transforming education for critical care transport teams in both aviation and ground settings. Attendees will gain a clear understanding of how these technologies create immersive, realistic training environments that enhance decision making, critical thinking, and team coordination during high-stress scenarios.
- Apply advanced techniques to manage and stabilize hemodynamic parameters immediately following intubation, ensuring optimal blood pressure and perfusion to critical organs during the Platinum 10.
- Discuss pediatric dosing and compare two concentration options utilized for pediatric patients.
- Understand the scope of the problem of the agitated and violent patient.
- Review new tools for risk stratification of patients with cardiogenic shock and appropriate disposition.
- Describe the pathophysiology of mitral and aortic regurgitation.
- Analyze case studies related to rural hospitals/ EMS services and identified gaps in continuing education.
