OVERVIEW

2nd Interstitial Lung Disease (ILD) Summit for Primary Care 2025 is organized by University of Washington School of Medicine (UWSOM) and will be held on Nov 08, 2025 at University of Washington, Seattle, Washington, United States of America.

Description:
Interstitial lung diseases are a heterogeneous, complex group of  non infectious acute and chronic, lung diseases  that may be primary or secondary to systemic diseases, Over 200 causes/conditions including autoimmune, genetic, environmental factors, medications prescribed other health problems are associated with interstitial lung disease.  Interstitial pneumonia of unknown cause is termed idiopathic interstitial pneumonia that includes idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis (IPF). The prognosis of IPF  is often poor; median survival is 3-5 years from time of diagnosis. Delays in diagnosis are common and associated with worse survival.

The summit is created in honor of  Candace Norquist, a patient at the Center for Interstitial Lung Disease, who unfortunately passed away as a consequence of pulmonary fibrosis. Ms. Norquist and her family very much wished the primary care providers be educated to prompt the general practitioners to take the necessary steps to make an early diagnosis of ILD and appropriate treatment interventions. The program will engage and educate providers through didactic lectures and panel discussion.

Objectives:
Upon completion of this activity, attendees should be able to:

  • Incorporate interstitial lung disease and pulmonary fibrosis into the differential diagnosis when seeing a patient with persistent shortness of breath and/or cough.
  • Identify roles of the general practitioner in management of patients with ILD.
  • Recognize and interpret testing involved in early evaluation for ILD
  • Demonstrate an increased awareness and knowledge of interstitial lung disease and pulmonary fibrosis.
