Overcoming Barriers to the Delivery of Cancer Care in Underserved Populations

The Frank M. Norfleet Forum for the Advancement of Health was established at UTHSC in 1979 through a designated fund within the Community Foundation of Greater Memphis. The mission of the Norfleet Forum is to focus on the improvement of the health status of the citizens who reside in Memphis/Shelby County, the State of Tennessee, the nation, and the world, through concern for effective health policies and organization. The 2025 Norfleet Forum focuses on overcoming barriers to the delivery of cancer care in underserved populations.

Learning Objectives:

• Bring together national and local thought leaders to participate in both didactic and panel discussions outlining how social determinants of health present challenges in the delivery of cancer care within ours and similar communities.
• Present current programs and initiatives within the community that are directed toward overcoming the challenges faced in delivery of cancer care in disparate patient populations.
• Foster the exchange of ideas and facilitate potential collaborations among established cancer programs, local not-for-profit organizations, healthcare workers and administrators, researchers, and community leaders toward improving the delivery of high-level  cancer care to traditionally underserved patients within the community.

Desired Outcome:
The goal of the 2025 Norfleet Forum is to serve as a dynamic platform uniting experts, researchers, and advocates dedicated to addressing the disparities in cancer care access and outcomes. Participants will discuss the various methods and strategies that healthcare professionals can implement in their daily practice to eliminate the barriers to the delivery of cancer care in underserved populations. The agenda for the day is designed to include insightful discussions, impactful presentations, and collaborative initiatives aimed at advancing cancer health equity across diverse communities.
