Trauma Surgery and Fracture Treatment (VOL) is organized by Netherlands Paramedical Institute (NPi) / Nederlands Paramedisch Instituut (NPi) and will be held from Mar 04 - Apr 08, 2024 at The Vechtsebanen Sports & Business Campus, Utrecht, Netherlands.
Description:
A physiotherapist (or exercise therapist) who works in a hospital, rehabilitation center or nursing home regularly treats patients with a fracture. Physiotherapists in primary care also regularly see fracture patients. Normally a sore heals in 6 to 12 weeks, depending on the treatment chosen, and the extremity can often regain weight. A physiotherapist who treats patients after a fracture must have knowledge of the fracture healing principles and treatment options. During the healing phase it is important to understand how the load should be built up, what the signals are of overload and how the therapy should be tailored accordingly. In addition, the therapist must be able to identify an abnormal course and must be able to adequately communicate his/her findings to the (trauma) surgeon.
This three-day course, which was set up in collaboration with trauma surgeons and physiotherapists from various (academic) hospitals, provides a clear picture of the current state of affairs with regard to trauma surgery, fracture treatment and trauma rehabilitation. The course provides information about normal fracture healing, medical and paramedical action in various types of fractures and recognizing an abnormal course. In addition, a lot of time has been allocated to case studies, in which many aspects of fracture healing are discussed. This provides ample opportunity to exchange ideas with trauma surgeons and physiotherapists from (academic) hospitals. The following topics are covered in the course:
• fracture healing principles
• normal and abnormal fracture healing
• treatment options for fractures, surgical and conservative
• complications
• physiotherapy in patients with fractures
• building up the load and exercise therapy of extremities
• biomechanics
• organization of trauma care in the Netherlands, nationally and regionally
• Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD)
• case studies
• live patients
Additional details will be posted as soon as information is available.
