Sports Medical Aspects (SMA) of Cycling Sports / MTB is organized by Sports Health Care Training Foundation / Stichting Opleidingen in de Sportgezondheidszorg (SOS) and will be held on Apr 17, 2024 at Sports Medicine Netherlands, Bilthoven, Utrecht, Netherlands.

Description:
This course focuses, among other things, on the specific training physiology of the various cycling sports , epidemiology of cycling and MTB injuries, the relationship between MTB injuries and bicycle adjustment , nutritional aspects surrounding MTB endurance sports and the cardiological pathophysiology of endurance sports .

The treatment of sport-specific problems will be partly based on case studies . All students will receive a number of cases by email two weeks in advance with the request to study them prior to the course and bring them with them for discussion.

Why this Course:
We can divide cycling into various disciplines. Cycling, mountain biking and gravel biking are probably the best known . But recreational cycling can also be considered part of cycling. A different type of bicycle is used for each discipline. The equipment and the route also often differ.

Mountain biking is a popular sport , with more than 520,000 men, women and children practicing this sport. But like almost every sport, mountain biking is not without risks! There is a risk of an MTB injury or fall.

An accident can always happen and if you fall there is a good chance that you will sustain an injury. Approximately 1,800 people visit the emergency room every year. The most common injuries, over 61%, are to the arms, collarbone or shoulder . Despite the increased use of bicycle helmets, 13% of mountain biking injuries each year are head injuries (source KNWU).

In addition, complaints occur due to incorrect posture or overload.   You may therefore encounter many cyclists with injuries and complaints, hence these Sports Medical Aspects (SMA) about cycling sports and mountain biking.
