Practical days in lymphology (VOL) is organized by Netherlands Paramedical Institute (NPi) / Nederlands Paramedisch Instituut (NPi) and will be held from Mar 19 - 20, 2024 at Nij Smellinghe Hospital, Drachten, Friesland, Netherlands.

Description:
At ECL we are regularly asked to come along for a day and watch. In most cases, the learning questions are non-specific and concern fellow edema therapists (edema physiotherapists and skin therapists) or nurses involved in oncological care. The paramedics form the main group and in most cases they are colleagues who have completed the basic training in edema physiotherapy or the master's degree in oncology and physical therapy. As ECL, one of our 'pillars' is the dissemination of knowledge, and we would like to offer internship opportunities.

Nij Smellinghe Hospital was recognized as a National Expertise Center for Lymphology in 2009. The aim of the expertise center is diagnosis and treatment of patients with lymphedema and lymphedema-related conditions. The ECL also functions as a knowledge center, with research & development and education as important tasks.
Since the ECL is positioned as a tertiary diagnostics and treatment center, complex patients in particular are seen. Treatment processes can be conservative and/or surgical in nature.
At the same time, regular oncology treatments are also provided in the hospital, where early diagnosis and treatment of lymphedema is fully embedded in protocol. Collaboration with oncology nursing consultants is essential in this regard.

The following themes will be discussed during the practice days:
• The lymphedema guideline and the lipedema guideline
• Highly complex patients with lymphedema or conditions related to lymphedema
• Vision on Chronic Care
• Chronic care management
• Self-management
• International Classification of Functioning, Disability and Health
• Diagnostics, medical and paramedical, with appropriate clinimetry
• Decongestive Lymphatic Therapy
• Compression therapy, including all available materials and user experiences
• Interdisciplinary work (dermatologist, surgeon, edema physiotherapist, physiotherapist, skin therapist, medical social worker, dietitian)
• Oncological care pathways
• Early diagnosis and treatment.
