Course Description:
The contemporary management of heart failure is characterized by evolving strategies to combine newer approaches based on research advances with well established evidence-based standards of care. The University of North Carolina (UNC) Heart Failure Conference is designed to provide a comprehensive overview of the current strategies for the treatment of heart failure. Course faculty will review cutting-edge approaches to diagnosis and classification and provide techniques and tips for the pharmacological and device management of heart failure. The material presented will have an interdisciplinary focus and will be of interest to physicians and other health care professionals who care for patients with heart failure.
Learning Objectives:
As a result of participation in this activity, participants will be able to:
• Discuss the clinical profile and current definition of heart failure
• Apply appropriate strategies to optimize use of current and novel drug therapy of heart failure with reduced left ventricular ejection fraction
• Understand the latest findings concerning pharmacological approaches to heart failure with mid-range or preserved ejection fraction
• Describe current therapeutic strategies for cardiac amyloid and hypertrophic cardiomyopathy
• Discuss management of advanced heart failure with mechanical circulatory support and surgical approaches including left ventricular assist devices and cardiac transplantation
• Discuss strategies for implementation of hemodynamic monitoring and novel device therapies to control congestion and improve outcomes in patients with heart failure
• Understand options for electrophysiological interventions to address risk of sudden death and atrial arrhythmias in patients with heart failure

Accreditation: This activity has been planned and implemented in accordance with the accreditation requirements and policies of the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (ACCME) through the joint providership of the University of Florida College of Medicine and UNC Eshelman School of Pharmacy of The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. The University of Florida College of Medicine is accredited by the ACCME to provide continuing medical education for physicians.

Suwannee River Area Health Education Center, Inc. is a Florida Board of Nursing approved provider of continuing education. CE Broker Provider ID #50-1922. This program meets the requirements for up to 17.5 contact hours.
Most states have reciprocal agreements with other states regarding CE credit. Nursing credit is offered through the Florida Board of Nursing. It is likely that other states will honor FL Board credit through their own board. However, since the Nursing credits being offered are not through a national accreditor, it is advised that credit seekers from other states check with their boards, prior to relying on the Florida Department of Health Credit being provided.
