Basic course in Sports Medicine is organized by Sports Health Care Training Foundation / Stichting Opleidingen in de Sportgezondheidszorg (SOS) and will be held from Apr 11 - 13, 2024 at National Sports Centre Papendal, Arnhem, Gelderland, Netherlands.

Description:
This three-day course is very interactive and practice-oriented. What you have learned can be immediately put into practice the next day. These days you will work a lot on the basis of case studies (sports injuries, disorders of other organ systems). There are workshops, such as exercise for the healthy and for people with a chronic condition, there are skills training on the physical examination of the musculoskeletal system and there is a daily sporting session in which you exercise/exercise.

Learning goals:
After this three-day course you will have:
• Knowledge of the field and field of sports medicine, the specific expertise of sports medicine and the position of sports medicine in healthcare;
• Acquired knowledge of the health-promoting effects of sports;
• Acquired knowledge of common adverse effects of sports;
• Knowledge and skills acquired to prepare sports/exercise advice for healthy non-athletes and people with a (chronic) condition; knowledge and skills acquired regarding the prevention of sports-related disorders;
• Knowledge and skills acquired in the field of diagnosis and treatment of common sports-related disorders.

The following topics are central:
• The field and field of activity of sports medicine and the new position of the sports doctor as a medical specialist in the health care system;
• Basic disciplines and exercise-influencing factors, exercise and pathophysiology of the cardiovascular, pulmonary, locomotor and metabolic systems, the role of sports nutrition and nutritional supplements and the effects of drugs (including doping) on ??exercise/sports;
• The role of exercise and sport in the prevention and (adjuvant) treatment of (chronic) conditions, such as obesity, diabetes and cardiovascular disease;
• Common (overuse) injuries and other undesirable effects of sports (including overtraining, respiratory problems), symptoms, diagnosis and treatment;
• Prevention/guidance with sports medical examinations and sports inspections, specific sports medical topics, such as exercise-induced asthma and sports heart. Prevention, sports medical advice and guidance of individual athletes, teams and events.
