American Academy of Psychiatry and the Law (AAPL) Forensic Psychiatry Review Course 2024 is organized by American Academy of Psychiatry and the Law (AAPL) and will be held from Oct 21 - 23, 2024 at Sheraton Vancouver Wall Centre, Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada.

Description:
The annual Forensic Psychiatry Review Course is unmatched in delivering core education in the field of forensic psychiatry.  Individuals from across the world attend to partake in this foundational knowledge delivery.  Whether they be seasoned forensic psychiatrists seeking foundational updates, fellows and residents taking their knowledge to another level, or individuals seeking to tackle the credentialing examination, the knowledge presented is essential to professional growth.

Course Objectives:
This intensive three-day course in forensic psychiatry will provide an in-depth review of selected topics and relevant landmark cases. Basic concepts will be reviewed along with the latest case law.
At the conclusion of the course, participants will:

• Have a good understanding of the major topics in forensic psychiatry;
• Understand the landmark mental health law cases;
• Be able to write more effective forensic reports;
• Be able to assess competency and sanity in defendants; and
• Be able to detect malingered mental illness.

Format:
Teaching methods will include lectures, report writing exercises, discussion of videotaped vignettes and informal interaction with faculty. A PDF of the comprehensive, 1,100-page syllabus with lecture outlines, 100 case summaries, report samples, reading lists, and over 700 self-assessment questions will be provided to all participants at no extra cost.

Important Note:
AAPL will not be providing a printed syllabus in 2024. You will receive a PDF of the syllabus that you can print if you wish, but copies will not be available at the meeting site.
