OVERVIEW

The 42nd Annual Meeting of the Japanese Society for Bone and Mineral Research (JSBMR) is organized by The Japanese Society for Bone and Mineral Research (JSBMR) and will be held from Jun 30 - Jul 02, 2024 at NAHA CULTURAL ARTS THEATER NAHArt, Naha, Okinawa, Japan.

Theme: Osteonetwork: Plus Ultra Osteonetwork and beyond

Description:
Although bone is a unique tissue found in vertebrates, its functions have been focused on supporting living organisms and enabling movement. However, it has become clear that bones are not just part of the locomotor system; they also sense external environmental changes and stress, and actively control other biological systems such as the immune system. Osteonetwork research is the first of its kind, covering not only the endocrine system, which has been studied for a long time, but also interactions with all biological control systems such as the immune system, nervous system, digestive system, respiratory system, and reproductive system, as well as the effects on remote organs. was all the rage. Where have we reached in our attempts to elucidate the Osteonetwork, the ``bone-based system for controlling biological systems throughout the body?'' And where do you plan to go from here?

In parallel with osteonetwork research, research on the cells that make up bones, the factors that control them, and cell-cell interactions has made significant progress, leading to the creation of numerous therapeutic drugs for osteoporosis. Activated vitamin D3, estrogen receptor modulators, and osteoclast-inhibiting bisphosphonates halt bone loss, and our understanding of the regulatory system of osteoblastic cells, especially RANKL, Sost, and FGF-23, produced by bone cells As the identification of regulatory factors has progressed, antibody preparations and PTH preparations that can strongly increase bone mass, and anti-FGF-23 antibodies, which can be called osteonetwork drug discovery, have been put into practical use. With so many options available, we are now living in an era where it is no longer easy to find a drug that can overcome existing drugs. Bones are the core of locomotor organs, but of course they cannot move on their own. The Society of Bone Metabolism is developing into a field of musculoskeletal science that goes beyond bones and deals with all musculoskeletal organs, including cartilage, synovium, muscles, tendons, ligaments, and nerves.

The theme of this year's conference is "Osteonetwork: Plus Ultra - Osteonetwork and beyond," and we will look back at the mature framework of bone metabolism and osteoporosis treatment, and discuss what lies beyond musculoskeletal science and Osteonetwork. I would like to suggest that this is an opportunity. The event was held in Okinawa Prefecture for the first time in the history of the Society of Bone Metabolism, and the venue was the recently completed Naha Cultural Arts Theater Nahaart. We hope that this will help us move away from conventional ways of thinking and everyday life and explore new ways for the Society of Bone Metabolism. In terms of program structure, we aimed to incorporate not only basic and clinical research, but also a wide range of opinions based on a working group made up of company committee members, and to discuss what is required of future bone metabolism research. In particular, we hope to have a large number of educational lectures, from legends who founded bone metabolism to top scientists in different fields, to encourage young researchers to think differently.

Additional details will be posted as soon as information is available.
