2024 American Academy of Psychotherapists (AAP) Mid-Atlantic Chapter Winter Workshop

2024 American Academy of Psychotherapists (AAP) Mid-Atlantic Chapter Winter Workshop is organized by American Academy of Psychotherapists (AAP) and will be held on Feb 24, 2024 at The George Washington University: Mount Vernon Campus, District of Columbia, Washington, United States of America.

What to Expect at This Workshop:
• A co-therapy team comprised of one more senior therapist and a less senior (though still experienced) therapist (Debbara Dingman, Ph.D., and Ron Del Moro, Ph.D.) will lead a demonstration fishbowl group focused on intergenerational co-therapy dynamics and group process.

• A group of 11 volunteers will participate in this demonstration group while all other attendees quietly observe. We invite you to consider being a volunteer for the fishbowl. If you are interested, please select this option on the registration page when you sign up.

• Following the demonstration group, there will be an interactive large group discussion exploring observers’ experiences of the dynamics in the demonstration group as well as their reactions to the process.

• After a longer break where lunch will be provided, we will have five additional afternoon process group workshops with intergenerational co-therapy teams led by one more senior and one less senior (though still experienced) therapist. Additionally, Dr. Dingman and Dr. Del Moro’s initial demonstration group will remain intact and continue their process following their morning demonstration group, this time in private.

• Following the afternoon process groups, we will commence with a leaderless large-group experience, also known as a community meeting. Community meeting is an integral part of many AAP events and is a leaderless space where we witness, listen, reflect, and dialogue with each other.  Similar to a Quaker meeting, participants are encouraged to speak when they feel moved to do so, often reflecting on their personal experience of the workshop. 

Educational Objectives:
• Participants can explain their understanding of an intergenerational learning approach, including benefits and challenges.
• Participants can explain how an intergenerational co-therapy model aids in intergenerational learning.
