Update on Oral Diseases That All Dental Practitioners Should Know is organized by University Of Victoria (UVic) and will be held on Nov 14, 2023 at , University Of Victoria, Victoria, British Columbia, Canada.

This course will cover important and common lesions of the mouth. Topics include:
soft tissue and bone lesions including diseases of the surface epithelium - emphasizing early detection of cancer;
gingival swellings in adults and children; palatal swellings - specifically salivary gland pathology;
oral ulcers - focusing on immune mediated diseases but also covering the oral manifestation of gastrointestinal diseases;
brown spot(s) - exploring drug-induced and oral malignant melanoma;
multiple papillary lesions – with attention to oral HPV-associated diseases and including oral cancer;
unilocular radiolucencies - concentrating on aggressive oral cysts and cancer metastasis;
multilocular radiolucencies - focusing on aggressive odontogenic neoplasms, completely radiopaque lesions (single and multiple), and the latter’s association with Gardner’s syndrome. 
Every category will start with an interactive discussion of a clinical case with a differential diagnosis identified by the audience. The case will serve as the basis for an in-depth discussion of the differential diagnosis, clinical presentation, and final diagnosis based on the histology.  Treatment at every level, recurrence rate, and overall prognosis will also be discussed.  Participants will be provided with tools to base their judgment on facts and the most applied standard of care. This is an interactive and dynamic course providing necessary information directly applicable to improving the everyday practice of diagnosing oral diseases.

Learning objectives
Identify which lesions need to be biopsied and which do not
Recognize oral SCC at its earliest stages
Formulate a differential diagnosis specific to the specific disease
Describe the oral manifestation of certain systemic diseases
Review HPV in general including immunization
Distinguish aggressive odontogenic cysts and neoplasms
Discuss radiolucent and radiopaque lesions of the jaw
