Conference Objectives:
• Gain knowledge in current treatment of diabetic foot ulcers and wound care. Learn about optimizing pharmacotherapy in older patients with cancer and cardiovascular disease. Identify new diagnostic tools and medical therapies for treatment of Alzheimer’s dementia. Evaluate the risks and benefits of both medical and non-medical treatment of agitation in patients with dementia. Identify the safest opioid medication and dose for patients with kidney and liver disease, and management of side effects.
• Learn skills to improve communication about sexual health, understand empathy, capacity, and guardianship. Understand the importance of collaboration between geriatric consultants, palliative care teams, and hospice. Recognize that the team approach, including medical and surgical comanagement of patients with acute trauma, improves outcomes.
• Learn about dental considerations in the elderly, from minimally invasive preventative care to ideal restorative care. Identify CPT coding changes in 2023. Understand the problems behind tort reform in Texas in 2003, and the subsequent court challenges that led to further changes. Be informed about ongoing research relevant to care of the elderly.
