Bridging the gap between “bench and bedside” requires collaborations across healthcare sectors through translational science. Translational science is the effort to translate research into pragmatic clinical practice and public health efforts. This allows the clinical practice to draw from and inform that which is researched. The bidirectional relationship between research and practice encompasses SAHM’s mission statement of advancing clinical practice, delivery of care, research, advocacy, and professional development.
