Program Purpose:
According to the most recent findings from the National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (NHANES III), in the year 2011-2012, close to 70% of adult Americans were either overweight (with a body mass index of more than 25 kg/m2) or obese (with a BMI of more than 30 kg/m2).
Obesity is recognized as a multifactorial, chronic, inflammatory disease. This excess body fat is collected due to complex interactions between the environment, genetic predisposition, human metabolism, and neuroendocrine and behavioral factors. Obesity is characterized by a longer duration of inflammation than other chronic diseases.
Most people who take part in weight-loss programs, whether medically managed or self-selected, need to be more successful in losing or keeping weight. Despite this, an estimated 55 percent of the population is engaged in weight-loss programs at any given time. Over 60% of people who successfully lose weight will have put back on all the weight they lost by the end of the first year after their first success. Only about 15% of adults get the recommended amount of physical activity each week, and over 65% lead a sedentary lifestyle. Improved short-term and long-term outcomes, including quality of life indicators, can be attained through the treatment of cardiovascular risk factors through the adoption of lifestyle and behavioral interventions, which serve as the foundation of this approach.
The vital modifiable components of obesity and overweight include hypertension, dyslipidemia, diabetes mellitus, metabolic syndrome, and inflammation. These complications are caused by being overweight or obese. According to the findings of numerous studies, an effective treatment plan for overweight individuals and those who are obese must incorporate not just long-term behavioral adjustments that are supported by consistent monitoring but also the simultaneous medical management of cardiovascular risk factors.
There is an effect on the clinical decisions, treatment techniques, and health outcomes of all healthcare practitioners, regardless of their clinical specialty, due to the growing prevalence of obesity and overweight in patients. As a result, the overarching purpose of the planning of this conference has been to give medical professionals the most recent findings from scientific clinical research that investigates the scope of the problem, the hereditary and environmental factors that contribute to it, the pathophysiology of obesity, and the difficulties that are associated with it.
