COURSE DESCRIPTON:
Dental implants are now the standard of care for patients with missing teeth. As the number of cases increases, it is essential to communicate ideal dental care following implant placement. The dental hygienist is often recognized by the patient as a trusted mentor and a go-to once a patient faces treatment options. This course emphasizes the hygienists role in pre-, intra-, and post-treatment to minimize infection and potential complications. Evidence based decision making, including safety and efficacy of instrument used in maintenance will be discussed. This presentation will review current literature on instrumentation, as well as biocompatibility of materials on titanium and zirconia surfaces.

Prevention & Management of Relevant Real-life Surgical Complications in Exodontia

COURSE DESCRIPTON:
Exodontia is the most common surgical procedure performed in the specialty of Oral Surgery. Complications are unforeseen events that tend to increase the morbidity, above what would be expected from a particular operative procedure under normal circumstances. Even the practice of routine exodontia inevitably results in complications from time to time. It is imperative for the clinician to recognize impending complications and manage them accordingly. General Practitioners who do not have advanced training and skills are more involved in surgical dentoalveolar procedures since a high percentage of patients suffer from multiple comorbidities or local anatomical variations. Some complications may be relatively minor and easy to control, while others will be major and can result in permanent damage of adjacent or vital anatomical structures or can even be life-threatening. This lecture is based on numerous clinical examples and cases, as a well as an extensive literature review and gives an overview about typical intra- and postoperative complications related to exodontia or common dentoalveolar procedures, with even severe adverse outcomes causing medical emergencies with potentially life threatening complication that even required intubation, emergency tracheostomy, or intensive care hospitalization.

• Assess, anticipate, and manage common complications associated with tooth extractions and common dentoalveolar surgical procedures
• Reinforce awareness that even simple surcical procedures are invasive in nature and can trigger extremely serious and life-threatening complications

We will also discuss the basic history, method of use, myths, and provide a general knowledge of this complex and ever-changing topic.
