Maintenance of Certification in Anesthesiology (MOCA®) and Crisis Resource Management for Practicing Anesthesiologists is organized by Center for Medical Simulation (CMS) and will be held on May 11, 2023 at Center for Medical Simulation (CMS), Boston, Massachusetts, United States of America.
Description:
All anesthesiologists can fulfill the MOCA® Part IV simulation requirement by attending one of the Center for Medical Simulation's (CMS) intensive one-day workshops in Anesthesia Crisis Resource Management (ACRM).
The Crisis Resource Management in Anesthesiology Workshops from CMS is made for anesthesiologists who want to hone their abilities in handling emergencies. These courses will provide an opportunity to gain skills in managing specific situations. Still, their overarching goal is to teach the collaboration and basic abilities necessary for handling any rare but crucial case that may arise during anesthesia. Participants in the workshops who need MOCA® certification will take turns acting as the patient's primary anesthesiologist.
Course Objectives:
Participants will:
• Examine the fundamentals of Crisis Resource Management (CRM), including their implementation in clinical settings, cross-monitoring, and situational awareness.
• Employ communication tactics in event management, including the role of the event manager utilizing the new paradigm "Name, Claim, Goal," handoffs, structured communication such as SBAR, assertion techniques including "Two Challenge," and advocacy/inquiry.
• Demonstrate deliberate practice of diagnostic problem solving and ways to avoid fixation, hence developing familiarity with the Emergency Manuals for patient management during periods of high cognitive load.
• Employ culture-change tactics with an emphasis on soliciting opinions and speaking up.
