Maintenance of Certification in Anesthesiology (MOCA®) and Crisis Resource Management for Practicing Anesthesiologists is organized by Center for Medical Simulation (CMS) and will be held on May 25, 2023 at Center for Medical Simulation (CMS), Boston, Massachusetts, United States of America.
Description:
A one-day workshop in Anesthesia Crisis Resource Management (ACRM) that is offered by the Center for Medical Simulation (CMS) will fulfil the simulation requirement of MOCA® Part IV for all anesthesiologists. A CMS Anesthesia Crisis Resource Management workshop, is designed for anesthesiologists seeking to improve their skills in dealing with critical events in a controlled environment.
This workshop will provide participants with the information and skills required to manage a wide range of infrequent, adequate, but critical events that may occur in anaesthesia and the opportunity to learn skills that can be applied to specific event fields. There will be a hands-on experience where the participants requiring MOCA® certification will be the primary anesthesiologist caring for the patient at the end of the workshops.
Course Objectives:
Participants will:
• Analyze the fundamentals of Crisis Resource Management (CRM), including their implementation in clinical settings, cross-monitoring, and situational awareness.
• Implement communication tactics in event management, including the role of the event manager utilizing the new paradigm "Name, Claim, Goal", handoffs, structured communication such as SBAR, assertion techniques including "Two Challenge," and advocacy/inquiry.
• Demonstrate deliberate practice of diagnostic problem solving and ways to avoid fixation, hence developing familiarity with the Emergency Manuals for patient management during periods of high cognitive load.
• Employ cultural change tactics with an emphasis on soliciting input and speaking up.
