Maintenance of Certification in Anesthesiology (MOCA®) and Crisis Resource Management for Practicing Anesthesiologists is organized by Center for Medical Simulation (CMS) and will be held on Jun 01, 2023 at Center for Medical Simulation (CMS), Boston, Massachusetts, United States of America.
Description:
The Center for Medical Simulation (CMS) offers intensive one-day workshops in Anesthesia Crisis Resource Management (ACRM) for all anesthesiologists that will meet the MOCA® Part IV simulation requirement. The Anesthesia Crisis, Resource Management training offered by CMS is intended for anesthesiologists who wish to hone their abilities in managing critical situations through hands-on experience. These workshops aim to teach participants the kind of teamwork and general skills required for effectively managing any infrequent but critical event in anesthesia. In addition, participants will have the opportunity to learn methods for successfully managing particular specific occurrences. Participants who are required to hold MOCA® certification will take turns acting as the principal anesthesiologist in charge of the patient while participating in the conferences.
Course Objectives:
Participants will:
• Review Crisis Resource Management (CRM) principles, including application to real clinical settings, cross-monitoring, and situational awareness.
• Apply communication strategies in event management, including the role of the event manager using the new paradigm “Name, Claim, Aim,” handoffs, structured communication such as SBAR, assertion techniques including “Two Challenge” and use of advocacy/inquiry.
• Demonstrate deliberate practice of diagnostic problem solving and strategies to avoid fixation, advancing familiarity with the Emergency Manuals for patient treatment during times of high cognitive load.
• Practice strategies for culture change, emphasizing inviting input and speaking up.
