OVERVIEW

Lumbar Bio-Skills Lab is organized by the Spine Intervention Society (SIS) and will be held from May 06 - 07, 2023 at the University of Melbourne, Melbourne, Victoria, Australia.

Educational Objectives:
Upon completion of this course, participants should be able to:

  • Evaluate how accurately the image depicts the relevant anatomy;
  • Relate patient history and physical exam findings with imaging to achieve a likely diagnosis of the spinal pathology causing the patient’s pain or dysfunction;
  • Explain how the procedures are effective in the scientific literature;
  • Outline the potential benefits and drawbacks of each procedure and methods for assessing and avoiding issues.
  • Apply technically correct performance of the spinal procedures using safe fluoroscopic guidance with minimal tissue injury or discomfort

DURING LAB ROTATIONS, EXPERT INSTRUCTORS WILL PROVIDE YOU WITH HANDS-ON EXPERIENCE IN GROUPS OF 6 ATTENDEES ON:

  • Needlecraft
  • Lumbar Injection Techniques
    • Interlaminar Epidural
    • L1-5 Transforaminal Epidural (Subpedicular)
    • Medial Branch Block
    • S1 Transforaminal Epidurals
    • Sacroiliac Joint

EXPLORE ASPECTS OF PROPER C-ARM UTILIZATION, INCLUDING:

  • Fluoroscopic Anatomy in True Anteroposterior, Lateral, and Oblique Positions
  • Fluoroscopic Positioning for Cervical Procedures
  • Parallax Error
  • Radiation Safety
