AM Session:
Course Description:
In this program, Dr. Malamed will review safety risks and best practices when managing local anesthesia in the pediatric dental patient. Currently available drugs will be reviewed as to their efficacy and safety in younger patients, with a specific emphasis on articaine. Additionally, we will have an in-depth discussion of local anesthetic overdose, a significant factor when treating lighter-weight patients.

Program objectives:
On completion of this program the enrollee should:
• Understand the risks associated with local anesthetic administration to the younger, lighter-weight patient.
• Discuss the management of local anesthetic systemic toxicity
• Discuss the use of articaine in the dental patient less than 4 years of age
• Discuss the clinical characteristics of currently available dental local anesthetics

Most of us became Pediatric Dentists to help kids.  While removing decay and handling challenging behavior cases are noble, how does saving a child from a life of sleep disordered breathing, inflammatory illnesses and cardiac disease sound? During our time together we will discuss:

• When and how do we address this in our already busy and successful dental practices?

• Recognize signs and symptoms associated with sleep and airway issues
