Dental Pharmacology Update and KASPER: Management of Pain in the Dental Office is organized by University of Louisville (UL) School of Dentistry and will be held on Oct 14, 2023 at University of Louisville School of Dentistry, Louisville, Kentucky, United States of America.
Course Description:
Dentists that have a registered DEA # in the state of Kentucky* are required to complete three (3) hours of continuing education that relates to the use of the electronic monitoring system, pain management, or addiction disorders prior to renewing their license every renewal cycle. This course will discuss the current opioid epidemic, review the requirements of Kentucky All Schedule Prescription Electronic Reporting (KASPER), discuss recent changes in KASPER, provide practical utilization of eKASPER for the practicing dentist, and discuss changes in management of acute dental pain.
Course Objectives:
Upon completion of this course, participants should be able to:
• Understand the current opioid epidemic;
• Describe the requirements of KASPER;
• Discuss recent KASPER updates;
• Discuss practical utilization of eKASPER for the dentist;
• Identify the most commonly prescribed controlled substances in Kentucky;
• Discuss management of acute dental pain;
• Describe analgesic drug interactions and contraindications; and
• Identify resources available to dentists.
