- glass ionomers
- ion-releasing materials
- Dental Adhesives
- etch-and-rinse
- self-etch
- Universal
- “Bioactive” Materials
- antimicrobial, antifouling, mineralizing
- calcium hydroxide and MTA
- calcium phosphates
- calcium silicates
- resin-based systems
- Sealants and Infiltration Materials
- resin-based sealants
- glass ionomers
- resin infiltrants

- mono-vs. polychromatic lights
- techniques for successful light curing
- Crown Materials
- pre-fabricated
- CAD-CAM resin-based materials
- ceramics (lithium disilicate, zirconia)
- stainless steel
Learning Objectives:
- Describe the composition, properties, and performance of current dental composites, and identify future trends for creating improved materials.
- List the types of dental adhesive materials available, and compare them in terms of their composition, properties, and reported clinical performance.
- Explain the modifications in the dental composite formulation that allows them to be used as flowable, packable, and bulk-fill restoratives.
- Explain the meaning of “bioactive” materials and describe their potential uses and expected beneficial effects. Identify the additives that are being explored for dental restoratives to impart “bioactive” qualities.
- Describe the composition and characteristics of glass ionomer and other ion-releasing materials, and relate their properties and clinical performance as restoratives, cement, and sealants to those of resin-based materials.
- Identify the qualities that a good light curing unit for restorative dentistry should possess, and describe and explain appropriate techniques for adequate light curing of dental restorations.
- Describe the composition and properties of the different types of materials for crowns, including pre-fabricated and zirconia.
- Identify indications for resin infiltration and describe the materials used and their application.
