Basic Sports Medicine course 2023

Basic Sports Medicine course 2023 is organized by Sports Health Care Training Foundation / Stichting Opleidingen in de Sportgezondheidszorg (SOS) and will be held from Mar 30 - Apr 01, 2023 at National Sports Centre Papendal, Arnhem, Gelderland, Netherlands.

Content of the Basic Course:
The following topics are central:
• The discipline and field of activity of sports medicine and the new position of the sports doctor as a medical specialist in the health care system;
• Basic disciplines and factors influencing exercise, exercise and pathophysiology of the cardiovascular, pulmonary, locomotor, and metabolic systems, the role of sports nutrition and nutritional supplements, and the effects of drugs (including doping) on exercise/exercise;
•  The role of exercise and sport in the prevention and (adjuvant) treatment of (chronic) disorders, such as obesity, diabetes, and cardiovascular disorders;
• Common (overuse) injuries and other undesirable effects of sports (including overtraining, respiratory problems), symptoms, diagnosis, and treatment;
• Prevention/support with sports medical examinations and sports examinations, specific sports medical topics, such as exercise-induced asthma and sports heart. Prevention sports medical advice and support for individual athletes, teams, and events.

Learning goals:
After this three-day course you will have:
• Knowledge of the field and field of activity of sports medicine, the specific areas of expertise of sports medicine, and the position of sports medicine in healthcare;
• Acquired knowledge of the health-promoting effects of sports practice;
• Acquired knowledge of common adverse effects of sports practice;
• Gained knowledge and skills to draw up sports/exercise advice for healthy non-athletes and people with a (chronic) disorder; knowledge and skills acquired with regard to the prevention of sport-related disorders;
• Acquired knowledge and skills in the field of diagnosis and treatment of common sports-related disorders.
