The Foundational Concepts One-Day Course: October 3, 2023

Description:
The 9th Annual Transplant Quality Institute (TQI) remains true to its founding mission of providing high quality education and resources to professionals responsible for transplant quality, process improvement, and patient safety.

The Foundational Concepts One-Day Course is designed for professionals with transplant quality experience seeking a refresher on the basics of transplant regulations and QAPI and for those new to transplant quality. The three-day conference is designed for the experienced professional to expand their skills and learn from the work of colleagues and transplant experts. It is also suitable for entry level professionals when combined with the Foundational Concepts Course.

Objectives:
Following the three-day Transplant Quality Institute conference participant s will be able to:
• Discuss the regulations that govern solid organ transplant in the United States
• Apply knowledge gained to write a transplant QAPI Plan
• Describe a Culture of Safety and how to manage patient incidents and adverse events
• Utilize methodologies learned to conduct process improvement
• Describe quality metrics
• Review concepts of data integrity related to transplant data management
• Identify current and new initiatives of OPTN, SRTR, and MPSC
• Discuss the implications of converging and diverging metrics for OPOs and transplant centers and how to use the various tools available to optimize our performance
• Describe the status of the ESRD Treatment Choices Learning Collaborative (ETCLC) and how to leverage data to drive improvement
• Initiate efforts to improve quality surveillance and reporting by leveraging EHR technology
• Describe the current status and future directions, challenges, and opportunities of continuous organ distribution
• Examine machine perfusion through multiple lenses - operational, financial, safety, and quality
• Discuss waitlist management in the era of waitlist mortality and offer acceptance metrics
• Review the role of the physician champion in quality and explain strategies for success
• Describe current trends and improvement efforts related to donor-related disease transmission
• Explain methods to analyze, trend, and monitor adverse events
• Describe MPSC’s efforts to improve transplant safety by sharing deidentified events
• Examine the role of Morbidity and Mortality Case Review in driving quality improvement
