2023 Combined Annual Meeting of The Southwest Society of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons (SWSOMS) and The Texas Society of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons (TSOMS) is organized by Southwest Society of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons (SWSOMS) and will be held from Mar 29 - Apr 01, 2023 at The Woodlands Resort, The Woodlands, Texas, United States of America.

The excitement is continuing throughout the annual conference program this year. We've put together a unique combination of educational events, networking and social opportunities, and our well-loved exhibit hall. You'll find:

• Up to 8 hours of continuing medical and dental education credits.
• Keynote lecture was delivered by the master of the OMS Anesthesia Simulation, Deepak Krishnan, DDS FACS Director of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery, University of Cincinnati, and Chair of the AAOMS Committee on Anesthesia will discuss simulation as a novel method for performing emergency protocols.
• The Byrd-Tilson-Walker Resident Day program will showcase the talents of our best residents as well as the research that they conduct at our residency programs.
• The well-known and extensive Exhibit Hall will provide attendees with an uninterrupted, uninterrupted opportunity to explore the products and services that OMS employs every day.

Byrd-Tilson-Walker Residents Day Presentations

This conference will feature presentations by outstanding young oral and maxillofacial surgery residents from the Southwest and Midwestern regions on research initiatives they are conducting at their respective institutions.

Learning Objectives:
At the end of this exercise, the learner will be better able to:
• Describe the broad clinical scope of the oral and maxillofacial surgery residency training programs for clinical research.
• Provide oral and maxillofacial surgeons in private practice with information about recent advances in treatment modalities, new techniques and procedures, and innovative technological applications that improve patient care.
• Encourage future oral and maxillofacial surgeons to remain involved in clinical research throughout their careers and to support the expertise and evolution of the specialty.

Keynote Symposium: The Role of Simulation In Office-Based Anesthesia: Safety and Outcomes
(4 hrs. CDE/CME)
Dr. Krishnan's presentation centers on the management of anesthesia-related emergencies. He will discuss the dynamics of high-fidelity, simulation training in the management of emergencies. The components of the recently developed simulation modules are presented, as are cases with audience interaction regarding emergencies in the adult and pediatric patient populations.

Learning Objectives:
Upon Completion of this enlightening activity, the learner will be better able to:
• Discuss the advantages and the workings of high-fidelity simulator training for managing anesthesia-related emergencies.
• Define the surgeon's and his staff's role in the treatment of emergencies.
• Determine the cause and treatment for anesthesia-related emergency.
