Overview:
Infection therefore continues to be a frequent cause of failure of arthroplasty and, having a high health and social cost in the treatment, it is necessary to define guidelines also in Italy.
The VIII National Congress AIR, which will take place in Modena on 8-9 April 2022, has the aim of deepening the diagnosis and treatment of prosthetic infections in hip, knee and shoulder arthroplasty, considering the problems common to these prosthetic systems. The Presidents Fabio Catani and Antonio Capone, the Vice-Presidents Giuseppe Porcellini and Pietro Cavaliere, and the Scientific Committee have developed a program that includes 3 Sessions and a Round Table. 
In the first session, a multidisciplinary panel of experts will address the current problems relating to the diagnosis and the criteria for choosing treatment: laboratory and instrumental investigations, systemic and local antibiotic therapy, the role of biomaterials, diagnostic guidelines proposed by SIOT.
In the other 3 sessions, authoritative national and international speakers will present their experience and their results on the various revision surgical treatments proposed for the resolution of the infection in hip, knee and shoulder arthroplasty. Finally, the impact of new technologies will be explored: new prosthesis coating materials to prevent infections, 3D CT reconstruction for pre-operative planning and for the construction of custom components. The Congress includes lectures, discussions between experts, a round table on the role of antibiotic cement in the treatment of infections and the presentation of clinical cases for an interactive discussion with the participants.
