Description:
Three-day Radiation emergency medicine course presented by REAC/TS in partnership with the Oak Ridge Institute for Science and Education. It focuses on the practical aspects involved in the initial treatment of irradiated and/or contaminated patients through lectures and hands-on exercises.

This course covers radiobiology basics and medical care for patients affected by radiological or nuclear incidents. Topics include radiation physics; radiation detection/measurement/identification; early evaluation and treatment of acute radiation syndrome (ARS), acute cutaneous injuries and internal contamination; contamination control; and mitigating risks to patients, providers, and facilities.

These principles are combined in a final hands-on exercise that involves live patients and simulates injuries.

The REAC/TS course covers treatment and cares for patients who have been involved in radiological, or nuclear incidents.
