Expanded Duty Dental Assistant (EDDA) Training is organized by LSU Health New Orleans Continuing Dental Education and will be held from Dec 09 - 11, 2022 at Louisiana State University School of Dentistry, New Orleans, Louisiana, United States of America. 

Description:
This is the "next step" for dental assistants who wish to increase their competencies in dental practice and become more valuable to their employers. This course is intended to equip dental assistants with the information and skills necessary to carry out expanded-duty dental assisting functions in accordance with the requirements outlined in Louisiana law. The information that was covered in the lectures will be reinforced with hands-on tasks that will be carried out in the laboratory. A post-course examination will be given to each participant, and they will need to pass it in order for their competency to be determined.

Learning Objectives:
After completing the course, participants should be better able to identify, understand, and explain:
• Coronal polishing: Materials and instruments used
• Coronal polishing techniques: limitations and uses, in contrast to a prophylaxis
• Care and lubrication for the right-angle handpiece
• Sutures and suture materials
• Different types and levels of sedation
• Uses and types of dental liners
• Retentioner for parts of the Tofflemire matrix
• The sequence of steps for the placement of an anterior crown
• Application of fissure and pit sealants
• Extrinsic and intrinsic stains in groups on the dentition
• Post-operative procedure for applying a medicated dressing
• Treatment and causes of alveolar osteosteitis
• Instructions for patients after surgery to provide home care
• Contraindications and indications for the use of nitrous dioxide
• Safety features for the nitrous unit
• Application, monitoring, and technique of nitrous oxide
• Different types and purposes of temporary crowns
• Proper armamentarium is required for the fabrication of a temporary Crown
• Rubber dams and isolation of teeth
• Periodontal surgical dressings used for manipulation and manipulation
• Gingival retraction methods

After completing the course, participants should be better able to demonstrate their knowledge of/ability to perform:
• Dental anatomy
• Coronal polishing
• Removing sutures with a sterile technique
• Placement of a cavity liner
• Preparing, placing, wedging, and removing a Tofflemire matrix retainer
• Etching of a posterior tooth prior to the placement of pit and fissure sealant
• Gingival retraction using the chemical method
• Removal of the retraction cord
• Mixing, placement, and removal of periodontal dressing
• Application of pit and fissure sealants
• Preparation needed before placement of sealants
• Placement of temporary filling
