Expanded Duty Dental Assistant (EDDA) Training is organized by LSU Health New Orleans Continuing Dental Education and will be held from Nov 18 - 20, 2022 at Ochsner Lafayette General Medical Center, Lafayette (Historical), Louisiana, United States of America.

Overview:
The course is AC/a!A"next step AC/a for assistants looking to improve their skills in the dental field. This course is designed to equip assistants in the field with the education and abilities they require to fulfill expanded duty dental assistant duties as defined under Louisiana law. Practical exercises will be carried out in the lab to strengthen what is taught in lectures. Participants will receive and will be required to pass an examination after the course to prove their level of competence.

 Learning Objectives:

 After having completed the course, participants will be better equipped to identify the following, comprehend, and explain:

• The purpose of the equipment and materials utilized in coronal polishing
• The limitations and applications of coronal polishing as contrasted with a prophylactic
• Care, use, and oiling of right-angle hand spread.
• Materials and instruments to suture
• Types and levels of sedation
• Types and functions of dental liner
• Parts from the Tofflemire matrix retainer
• Sequence of steps to the positioning on an anterior reconstruction
• Application of fissure sealant and pit
• Groups with extrinsic or intrinsic staining on dentition
• Method for placing an antibiotic dressing after operative
• Treatment and cause of alveolar osteosteitis.
• Post-operative instructions to a patient to provide home care
• Contraindications and indications for using Nitrous oxide
• Nitrous safety features are part of the unit
• Methodology of application and monitoring the nitrous oxide
• The purpose of temporary crowns and the different kinds of crowns that are temporary
• Proper armamentarium is required for the fabrication of the crown for a temporary period
• Use of a rubber dam and separation of teeth
• Manipulation and application of the periodontal surgical dressing
• Methods employed to retract gingival gingival

 After the completion of the course, students should be able to demonstrate their ability to:

• Dental anatomy
• Coronal polishing
• Removing sutures using a sterile technique
• The placement of an interior liner
• Preparing, putting, the wedging, and then taking away a matrix retainer from Tofflemire
• The etching of the posterior tooth before the placement of pits and fissure sealant
• Retraction of the gingival area by using the chemical method
• Retraction of the cord
• Mixing, placing as well as removing dressings for periodontal dressing
• Application of fissure sealants and pit sealants.
• Preparation is required before the sealing agents are applied.
• Application of temporary filling
