Description:
An understanding of adipocyte biology is crucial to the tackling of obesity and its associated diseases, including diabetes, heart disease, cancer,  and, as recently shown, more severe outcomes from some viral infections. The high incidence of these diseases has increased the urgency of understanding the complexities of adipocyte function. Co-hosted by the Biochemical Society and Society for Endocrinology, ‘The adipocyte across biological scales’ is the 45th meeting of the Adipose Tissue Discussion Group. This meeting will bring together scientists of all career stages in the adipose biology field, to share and challenge the latest advances in adipose research and foster new collaborations in this important area of research.

The event will begin with an Early Career Researcher (ECR) workshop featuring an interactive discussion on career development and opportunities, and a Q&A session on advances in adipose tissue methodologies, including advanced imaging, large scale human biobanks and omics approaches.

The scientific meeting programme will feature talks from both leaders in the field and talented new ECRs in sessions covering the cutting edge of basic molecular biology of the adipocyte through to emerging translational applications of adipocyte research. This will include the nuclear envelope and intracellular signalling advances; cell-cell interactions and the adipose microenvironment as drivers of disease; and the regulation of adipose tissue function by hormones released from distant cells and organs.
