Local Anesthesia and Nitrous Oxide Course is organized by Virginia Commonwealth University (VCU) Dentistry Continuing Education (CE) and will be held from Oct 08 - 09, 2021 at VCU School of Dentistry, Richmond, Virginia, United States of America.

Course Description:
Topics covered include pharmacology, anatomy, physiology, medical emergencies, legal considerations, and techniques for administration of local anesthetic to the maxilla and mandible. Participants will receive clinical instruction under direct faculty supervision and will complete curriculum quizzes to meet Board of Dentistry requirements for certification.

• Perform a patient medical history evaluation
• Describe the equipment and techniques used for the administration of nitrous oxide
• Describe the neurophysiology of nitrous oxide administration.
• Describe the pharmacology of nitrous oxide.
• Describe record-keeping for nitrous oxide administration.
• Describe medical and legal aspects of nitrous oxide administration.
• List the indications and use of nitrous oxide for dental patients.
• Describe the adjunctive uses of nitrous oxide for dental patients.
• List and describe complications of OSHA guidelines to nitrous oxide.
• Perform clinical administration of nitrous oxide including live training with patients.
• Describe the neurophysiology of local anesthetic.
• Describe the pharmacology of local anesthetics and vasoconstrictors.
• Describe the anatomical considerations for local anesthesia.
• Describe the techniques for maxillary infiltration and block anesthesia.
• Describe the techniques for mandibular infiltration and block anesthesia.
• Describe proper control of the armamentia, anesthetics, infection control, sharps disposal and topical anesthesia used.
• Describe local and systemic anesthetic complications.
• Describe management of medical emergencies.
• Perform clinical administration of maxillary and mandibular infiltration and block anesthesia.
