2021 American Neurogastro­enterology and Motility Society (ANMS) Annual Meeting is organized by American Neurogastro­enterology and Motility Society (ANMS) and will be held from Aug 13 - 15, 2021 at The Westin Boston Seaport District, Boston, Massachusetts, United States of America.

Target Audience:
This activity is designed for gastroenterologists in academic and clinical practice, gastroenterology fellows, nurses and nurse practitioners, physician assistants, technicians and medical assistants involved in adult and pediatric gastrointestinal motility testing, research, patient care, drug/device development, and other relevant stakeholders in the field of neurogastroenterology and motility.

This meeting is intended for scientists, clinician scientists, gastroenterologists, but also psychiatrists and other clinicians; physicians in training such as gastroenterology fellows, biochemists, molecular and cell biologists, physiologists, neurophysiologists, immunologists, pharmacologists, and behavioral psychologists, doctoral level researchers, and nurses involved in adult and pediatric GI and motility testing and research.

Course Overview: 
This course will benefit both novice and expert clinicians and clinical investigators through its emphasis on the diagnostic approach and management of gastrointestinal (GI) dysmotility and functional GI disorders. Although the focus of this meeting will be on emerging technologies, the presentations will be valuable to all participants as the pathophysiology of these disease states will be reviewed in parallel to the description of these new approaches.  Presentations will include, but will not be limited to, discussions on all parts of the gastrointestinal tract and will focus on emerging technologies in colonic and anorectal motility disorders, esophageal motility disorders, gastroesophageal reflux disease, nausea and vomiting, gastroparesis, identification and management of irritable bowel syndrome (IBS), brain-gut microbiome axis, diet and food sensitivities.

Scientific Program Overview: 
Will address many cutting-edge research areas which range from basic aspects of neurogastroenterology, translational and clinical aspects of gastrointestinal motility and functional disorders. Topics will include the mechanisms of visceral pain, genetic and epigenetic approaches, role of the gut microbiota, food sensitivities and intolerances, patient reported outcomes and biomedical informatics. Disease areas that will be discussed include including esophageal disorders, functional dyspepsia, gastroparesis, irritable bowel syndrome, chronic constipation, and fecal incontinence.  In addition, participants will learn more about current and novel therapeutic approaches for these conditions.

Learning Objectives:
At the conclusion of this activity the learner will be able to:
• Discuss recent scientific and clinical advances on the pathophysiology and treatment of common functional gastrointestinal and motility disorders
• Describe current indications, methodology, and interpretation of new and commonly used GI motility tests.
• Review the clinical management approaches for upper and lower gastrointestinal motility and functional gastrointestinal disorders.
• Use a standardized approach for performing current and new procedures.
• Choose between various modalities for optimally assessing esophageal, gastric and colonic disorders and their function.
• Develop patient treatment plans based on the test results using an evidence-based and logical approach and following guidelines.
• Use the latest pharmacology and therapeutic advances in a broad spectrum of GI motility and functional bowel disorders including treatment strategies and approaches to gastroesophageal reflux disease, dysphagia, gastroparesis, cyclic vomiting, irritable bowel syndrome, constipation, fecal incontinence, and gas and bloating.
• Examine the animal models of visceral pain and their utility in translating to human studies.
• Review emerging genetic, epigenetic and pharmacogenomic approaches applicable to functional gastrointestinal disorders.
• Discuss emerging technologies and their application to functional GI disorders.
• Determine the role of microbiota in functional gastrointestinal disorders.
• Discuss the diagnosis and management of upper and lower functional gastrointestinal and motility disorders in children and adults.
• Discuss current clinical research outcome measures and development of novel biomarkers in functional gastrointestinal and motility disorders.
• Discuss the regulation of appetite, complications of diabetes mellitus including gastroparesis and constipation, and the role of the microbiome in a variety of gastrointestinal disorders
