Purpose:
• To evaluate the recent guidelines and how they should be implemented into the care of critically ill patients.
• To apply new therapies for critically ill patients with various common ICU diseases such as ARDS, cerebral vascular disease and severe infections.

• Antibiotic Treatment Guidelines: Separating fact from fiction
○ Identify for the conference members the discrepancies between current guideline recommendations and the current literature on the subject
• Critical Review of the 2016 Surviving Sepsis Campaign
○ The Surviving Sepsis Campaign was recently updated. Realize the important points that impact patient care.
• Fungal Infections in the ICU
○ Currently different organizations vary in their recommendations on when to use the available anti-fungal therapies.
• ARDS Clinical Update
○ Upon completion of this lecture, clinicians should be able understand and implement cost effective infection control measures in their practice.
• Management of Embolic Stroke
○ Currently different organizations vary in their recommendations on treatment of CVAs and related complications. ○ Critically review the management of acute embolic strokes.
• Infection control practices in the ICU: What is the evidence?
○ Upon completion of this lecture, clinicians should be able understand and implement cost effective infection control measures in their practice.
• Critical Care Controversies: Anemia and Transfusion in the ICUs
○ Identify the appropriate transfusion trigger in the critically ill and the risks associated with transfusion. Also discussion transfusion practices for massive transfusions.
• Antimicrobial Resistance and Associated Challenges: A Global Perspective
○ Identify the global problem of antibiotic resistance and how it will impact the care of our critically ill infected patient.
• Community Acquired Pneumonia: Real-world Data and Clinical Guidelines
○ Recognize the key bacterial pathogens for CAP and initiate appropriate initial therapy based on the patients presentation.
• Critical Review of the AHA CPR-ACLS Recommendations
○ Adapt the AHA CPR-ACLS algorithms to be closer to best practices.
• Critical Care Controversies: Is Oxygen Bad for Our Patient
○ Recognize where hyperoxia had been shown to be harmful in patient with critical illnesses and identify mechanisms that contribute to hypoxia's detrimental effects in the critically ill.
• Ethical cases in the Critically Ill
○ Accept how to best integrate non-standard advanced directives into the care of critically ill patients.
• Role of hypothermia in the Critically Ill
○ Separate the AHA Targeted Temperature Management (TTM) recommendations and what the clinical data actually supports.
• Treatment of acute DVT and PE in the critically ill
○ Demonstrate how the treatment of DVT and PE varies based on the severity of illness.
