Nitrous Oxide Psychosedation: Certification Course is organized by University of Florida (UF). The symposium is held from Jan 10 - 11, 2020 at the University of Florida College of Dentistry, Gainesville, Florida, United States of America.

Course Description:
Nitrous oxide-oxygen sedation must be correctly administered to the conscious child or adult, it presents a pathway for the adjunctive aid management of the apprehensive patient. This course is intended for a general dentist to develop auxiliary use of nitrous oxide psychoeducation confidently in the office environment. The didactic and clinical guidelines will give a participant a step-by-step procedural strategy for the control of anxiety in conscious patients. The structure of the session will follow the guidelines for a recommended office inhalation analgesia course as needed by both Florida and Georgia Boards of Dentistry. To meet American Dental Association guidelines, twelve hours of this course will consist of a review of the instructional material, in a home-study format. A pre- and post-test will be conducted for certification.

Course Objectives:
With the completion of this course, a participant should be,
• Understand the history and characteristics of Nitrous Oxide Sedation
• Know the basic respiratory physiology, including the uptake and distribution of gases
• Acknowledge the states of anesthesia and phases of State I Anesthesia
• Recognize the pharmacology, and physiology of Nitrous Oxide
• Know the signs, contraindications, and complexities of inhalation analgesia
• Distinguish the features of the Nitrous Oxide/Oxygen delivery system
• Create a clinical protocol for the use of Nitrous Oxide/Oxygen Sedation
