As orthodontists, we are in the dilemma of trying to please our referring dentists but also do what is best for our patients. Te two objectives may be difficult to match up. For example, is an implant the only restorative option for a missing lateral incisor in a 14 years old (NO!), or even a 45-year-old adult? We will cover long term data on implants and how craniofacial growth and maturation have a real effect on our decision making in the esthetic zone. Things that we just don’t teach dentists in dental school and they certainly aren’t exposed to this information when they are in practice. We plan a broad-ranging discussion on this topic.
