Learning Objectives:
As a result of attending this activity, the participant will be able to:
• Identify relevant anatomy of the body wall and the abdominal and thoracic cavities for thoracentesis and paracentesis
• Demonstrate appropriate technique for evacuation of fluids from pleural and peritoneal spaces
• Discuss the clinical aspects of pleural effusion, pneumothorax, and ascites in relation to the therapeutic and diagnostic applications of paracentesis and thoracentesis
• Discuss potential complications and their relevant anatomical relationships
