Coronal Polishing for Dental Assistants is organized by Creighton University and will be held from Jan 31 - Feb 01, 2020 at Creighton University School of Dentistry, Omaha, Nebraska, United States of America.

Description:
This course is designed to meet the requirements of the State of Nebraska to allow dental assistants to perform coronal polishing under the direct supervision of a licensed practicing dentist. The prerequisites to taking this course:
• Must be 18 years of age or older
• Have one (1) year (1500 hours) of clinical work experience as a dental assistant
The course will contain 14 hours of instruction beginning at 8 a.m. and include 10 hours of didactic instruction and 4 hours of hands-on. The participants will perform coronal polishing on each other under the supervision of faculty members of the Creighton University School of Dentistry. Participants must wear scrubs, closed-toed shoes and safety glasses both days. A proof of eligibility form will be sent with your confirmation email. This form must be completed and turned in before beginning the course.

Objectives:
• Recognize the anatomy of the oral cavity and tooth structures;
• Recognize the tissue structures, and their involvement with tooth structure;
• Comprehend the legal limitations of coronal polishing;
• Describe the materials needed for polishing;
• Describe positioning for the operator and patient during the polishing procedure;
• Discuss the indications/contraindications for polishing;
• Explore the advantages to the patient and the responsibilities of the operator associated with coronal polishing;
• Comprehend the anatomy, materials, tissue management and infection control needed to do quality polishing;
• Practice the skills discussed to successfully coronal polish.
