Common Fractures and Dislocations is organized by University of Calgary - Continuing Medical Education and Professional Development and it will be held on Jan 17, 2020 at Banff Park Lodge Resort Hotel & Conference Centre, Banff, Alberta, Canada.

Course Description:
This course is designed to learn hands-on skills to deal with complicated fractures and dislocations seen in the rural emergency departments. The course will include short case-based presentations on specific fractures, a discussion of diagnosis and treatment, demonstration of the applicable cast and/or splint and hands-on practice. The morning will focus on fractures and dislocation of the upper limbs and the afternoon will focus on the lower limbs. Participants will practice on each other, including applying splints and casts.

Course Objectives:
At the end of this course, learners will be equipped to:
• determine what injuries should be treated in the rural emergency department
• order appropriate x-rays according to injury presentation
• perform proper techniques for reducing, splinting and casting
• evaluate when to transport and refer the at-risk patient
