80th Australian Orthopaedic Association (AOA) Annual Scientific Meeting (ASM) is organized by Australian Orthopaedic Association (AOA) and will be held from Oct 11 - 15, 2020 at Melbourne Convention and Exhibition Centre (MCEC), Melbourne, Victoria, Australia.

The theme of this year’s meeting is “Standing Tall and Stepping Forward”. This, of course, is a reminder of the effect of orthopaedic surgeons in enabling the wonder of movement. Further, aim to celebrate science, innovation and the role of orthopaedic surgeons in advocacy and community engagement, stepping forward into a partnership to improve the quality of life of Australians.

One major highlight will be joint learning from and with the International Hip Society who will open part of their meeting to members of the AOA on Sunday and will lead a plenary on Monday which will cover the history and future of hip Arthroplasty. This will be an exciting session of great interest to our younger fellow, registrars and scientists as they apply a “lesson learned” approach to a topic of fundamental interest to many members. truly stand on the shoulders of giants and this session will show us how it happened and the direction of the future.

Later will have a plenary on advocacy and engagement to the benefit of the community. Will hear of the road safety, the “towards zero-project”, the role of surgical advocacy in domestic and alcohol-induced violence, the importance of diversity and how our colleagues in New Zealand cope with earthquakes and terror. This should prove stimulating and educational.

There will be a large notable contribution from distinguished faculty and orthopaedic leaders from around the world. Welcome not only our esteemed international Presidents from” the carousel” but the very many distinguished Presidents form the Asia Pacific
