OVERVIEW

AOSpine Principles Course - Anatomical Principles of Spinal Fusion is organized by AOSpine Europe and will be held from Mar 05 - 06, 2020 at Radisson Blu Sobieski Hotel, Warsaw, Warsaw, Mazowieckie, Poland.

Target Audience:
• Neurosurgeon
• Orthopedic surgeon
• Spine surgeon

Accreditation:
The UEMS-EACCME® has granted 12 CME points for this event.

Description:
The pedicle screws are a cornerstone of modern spinal surgery. Their placement poses a major challenge, and the learning curve is rather steep. This course will address key principles of the spinal fusion: the biology and biomechanics, indications and contraindication for surgery, prevention of complications. But the main emphasis of the course will be on the techniques of placement of screws in all segments of the spine with the help of anatomic principles.

The event will comprise of evidence-based lectures, expert debates, case-based small group discussion and practical sessions on dry-bones.

This educational event, taught in a modular format, offers you a challenging learning experience with interactive sessions facilitated by faculty teaching in their field of expertise.

The course will also include dry bone workshops to help you master the surgical technique. There will be ample time for discussion with the faculty, exchange ideas with your colleagues concerning all different aspects of the surgical treatment of spinal trauma.

Although this is a principle course, and you are not required to possess significant skills in the field, we strongly encourage you to take an active part in lectures and discussions. In all previous events, the participants were equally important as the faculty in creating a successful experience. Please do bring your own, relevant cases as we will try to make this course intensely interactive, involving every participant.

Learning Objectives:
• Understand the biomechanical principles of fusion
• Perform planning of the surgery based on preoperative imaging
• Safely place pedicle screws using a free-hand technique in the thoracolumbar spine
• Be familiar with several bailout techniques when facing complex complications with pedicle screws
• Understand the advantages and limitations of various techniques of the placement of pedicle screws
• Realize how to avoid the most common, serious complications

Additional details will be posted as soon as information is available.
