Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support is an advanced, instructor-led classroom course that highlights the importance of team dynamics and communication, systems of care and immediate post-cardiac-arrest care. It also covers airway management and related pharmacology. In this course, skills are taught in large, group sessions and small, group learning and testing stations where case-based scenarios are present.
ACLS is designed for healthcare professionals who either direct or participate in the management of cardiopulmonary arrest or other cardiovascular emergencies. This includes personnel in emergency response, emergency medicine, intensive care and critical care units such as physicians, nurses, and paramedics, as well as others who need an ACLS course completion card for job or other requirements.
Prior to the course: Read the textbook. Pages 2 & 3 of the textbook covers the course prerequisites that you MUST complete. At the AHA website (www.heart.org/eccstudent) – review the CPR/AED skills video, take the ECG rhythm identification self-assessment, ACLS pharmacology review. Without the pre-course preparation, you may not be able to successfully complete the course. You Must obtain 80% on the Self-Assessment to attend.
