Third Annual MRI Safety Day 2019

The Third Annual MRI Safety Day is a one-day educational activity that enables healthcare professionals engaged in MRI to learn the latest safety information, guidelines, and standards. This year, two highly experienced and well-respected radiologists will provide lectures of particular relevance to Magnetic Resonance Medical Directors and Magnetic Resonance Safety Officers.

 

2019 Learning Objectives:

• Summarize the importance of MRI safety education.

• Differentiate the bioeffects associated with the static magneticfield, time-varying magnetic fields, and radiofrequency field.

• Describe the risks associated with the electromagnetic fields associated with MRI.

• Summarize guidelines and best practices that prevent projectile-related accidents.

• Summarize guidelines that avoid issues related to acoustic noise.

• Summarize procedures that prevent burns related to MRI.

• Identify appropriate MRI screening procedures for patients and healthcare professionals.

• Summarize the MRI labeling terminology for implants and devices

• Describe the risks associated with implants and devices in MRI.

• Describe guidelines for medical emergencies in the MRI setting.

• Summarize guidelines for emergency shut down, quench, and cryogen safety in MRI.

• Summarize updated guidelines for the use of gadolinium-based contrast agents (GBCAs).

• Compare the association of various GBCAs with Nephrogenic Systemic Fibrosis and gadolinium retention.

• Summarize the importance of professional society engagement.
