Medical Cannabis was legalised in Australia in November 2016. The global legal cannabis market is expected to grow to over US$20 billion by 2020. There is good clinically-trialled evidence that it may be of benefit in Chronic Pain, MS, Nausea in Cancer related Chemotherapy and Drug Resistant Epilepsy. The TGA has also approved prescriptions for PTSD and Autism symptoms.

Dr Teresa Towpik - General Practitioner
Teresa is a Polish-born doctor currently practicing in Katoomba NSW. As a GP for more than 30 years, Dr Towpik has prescribed thousands of drugs for patients, many of them opioids which can have severe side effects. Her research into cannabis has led her to believe it could be a much better form of pain relief. She is a cancer survivor and passionate about using medical cannabis as a treatment option.

Professor Iain McGregor 
Iain is the Academic Director of the Lambert Initiative and an NHMRC Principal Research Fellow. He is responsible for academic and organisational leadership, strategic direction, governance and reporting, and the development and achievement of the preclinical and clinical research strategies. Iain oversees a team of more than 25 staff and students, including the Associate Directors, and reports to the Lambert Initiative Internal Management Group (IMG). Renowned in the field of medicinal cannabis research, Iain leads stakeholder relations, advocacy and education.

Rhys Cohen – Senior Project Officer at The Lambert Initiative (Sydney University)
Rhys acts as a key interface between the Lambert Initiative for Cannabinoid Therapeutics and government, regulators, industry and consumers.He responsible for leading a variety of projects within the Lambert Initiative to do with drug policy; the scheduling and rescheduling of cannabis products; NSW Health and TGA/ODC licensing; industry engagement; consumer outreach; and education. He is also responsible for the development of public policy positions for the Lambert Initiative relating to issues such as patient access.

Justin Sinclair – TMC Consultancy 
Justin is a Research Fellow at the NICM Health Research Institute based at Western Sydney University. He is also the co-ordinator of the Australian Medicinal Cannabis Research & Education Collaboration (AMCREC) and for the last 4 years has also served on United in Compassion’s Scientific Advisory Board, Australia’s leading medicinal cannabis patient advocacy group, in a pro bono capacity.

His scientific background is in pharmacognosy (i.e. drugs that come from plants), but his research interests extend into botany, ethnopharmacology, analytical phytochemistry and psychopharmacology. He is currently a co-investigator on several medicinal cannabis clinical research projects and has presented over 40 education focused lectures to medical practitioners, nurses, pharmacists and other allied health professionals regarding cannabis since 2016. Justin has published on the topics of cannabis and the endocannabinoid system, pain management and herb/drug interactions in peer reviewed publications and is a member of the Society of Cannabis Clinicians and International Cannabinoid Research Society.

Dr Katrina Green -  University of Wollongong
Dr Katrina Green’s research aims to improve the treatment of psychiatric illness and cognitive impairment. She has a PhD in neuropharmacology and leads a vibrant lab team who have been examining the ability of cannabidiol (CDB) to improve cognition in a rodent model of schizophrenia, and the effects of CBD on neurochemical signalling systems in the brain. She is also investigating the beneficial effects of other cannabis phytochemicals on brain health. Dr Green is passionate about bridging the gap between medical science and cannabis agriculture to develop personalised cannabis-based medicines that could translate into revolutionary improvements in health outcomes.

Jason Jordan - Prescribed Patient
Jason was diagnosed with Primary Progressive Multiple Sclerosis 3 years ago. He was deteriorating fast and had reached the point of being unable to walk without an aid.  Short-term memory loss, balance issues, numbness, double-vision, insomnia, cognition impairment, anomic aphasia, peripheral & trigeminal neuralgia all became part of daily life because conventional medicines did very little to help. Jason was the first patient in WA to receive Medical Cannabis and says that it changed his life.
