Preservation of Alveolar Bone Dimensions in Extraction Sockets is organized by UCLA School of Dentistry and will be held on Jan 19, 2019 at UCLA School of Dentistry, Los Angeles, California, United States of America. This CME Conference has been approved for a maximum of 8 CDE Credits.
The exponential growth in implant dentistry has resulted in the development of a number of new and important procedures. The preservation of the dimensions of the alveolar ridge after tooth removal is crucial for the successful placement of dental implants. The scientific evidence demonstrating the effectiveness of bone grafts and guided bone regeneration in preserving and regenerating hard tissue in extraction sockets is overwhelming. This hands-on workshop uses a pig jaw model where participants will practice the regenerative treatment of fresh extraction sockets, including the selection and use of bone grafts, membranes and biological wound dressings. Additionally, participants will be taught flap elevation and suturing techniques that may be used in conjunction with ridge preservation procedures.
Learning Objectives:
• Rationale for extraction socket and edentulous ridge preservation
• Principles of tooth extraction with minimal trauma
• Modalities of osseous grafts used in edentulous ridge preservation
• Indications and techniques for guided bone regeneration with membranes
• The need for flap elevation: indications, advantages and disadvantages
• Anesthesia, pain management, and post-operative care
Workshop Exercises (performed on pig jaws)
• Extraction socket grafting combined with osseous grafting and socket orifice closure with a collagen plug/free gingival graft
• External socket grafting combined with internal membrane placement
• External socket grafting combined with external membrane placement and buccal flap elevation/advancement
Additional details will be posted as soon as they are available.
