Intent and Overview:
The 11th Annual Neonatal and Pediatric ECMO Educational Conference at UPMC Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh, a conference dedicated to providing educational opportunities for clinicians who care for children requiring ECMO. The two-day event includes lectures from experts, case presentations, panel discussions, and a one-of-a-kind hands-on ECMO simulation session. The conference will provide clinicians of all levels an opportunity to enhance their knowledge of managing pediatric patients requiring ECMO.
Objectives:
The purpose of this course is to provide a didactic and “hands-on” based education in an interactive multidisciplinary format for health care providers who care for patients receiving extracorporeal support. After participating in this educational activity, participants should be able to:
• Recognize the benefit of a multidisciplinary approach to managing ECMO patients
• Discuss neurodevelopmental outcomes and follow-up care for pediatric ECMO patients
• Understand the varying cannulation strategies for VA versus VV ECMO
• Recognize and manage ECMO emergencies
• Discuss indications for ECPR
• Understand different strategies for patient management on ECMO
• Discuss anticoagulation management for pediatric ECMO patients
